The Grand Chapter of Delaware, Order of the Eastern Star is a non-profit group. One of our objectives is to provide aid to those in need. The Benefit for Children with Special Needs in Delaware is one of those projects.

In 1935 the Grand Chapter began the benefit and it has continued over the years. The fundraisers have changed from a yearly Summer Benefit Chicken Dinner with chapters having tables to sell various items from crafts, plants, baked goods, books and attic treasures to smaller dinners held at each chapter. There were the same chicken dinners, exciting Luau's and Halloween parties, hot dog sales, and jewelry parties. We then added a Time with Elvis, a Sock Hop, a Holiday Wheelbarrow of Cheer, and Dinners with Fashion and Magic shows.

Each May, we gather for our Informal Opening and distribute the funds we raise during the year. It is a heartwarming evening where we are able to learn how our hard work impacts the lives of Children with Special Needs and their families. It is often an opportunity to meet some of the children and Organization leaders who benefit from our program.

For the 2014-2015, our members raised just over $22, 000 for children with special needs and the organizations in Delaware that support them.

In 2015 - 2016 we raised approximately $20,000 and provided therapeutic wheelchair bikes for two children and provided camp experiences at Camp New Hope, Camp Lenape and Children’s Beach House as well as providing Therapeutic Riding lessons at southern Delaware Therapeutic Riding for many children with special needs. We also supported the Delaware Autistic Program, Sussex Consortium and Delaware Statewide Programs for Children with Deaf and blindness, the Howard T Ennis School and Cathedral Choir School for Summer Camp opportunities for children.

The 2016-2017 year was another exciting year with lots of new events. Along with the Halloween Party and the many other Chapter events, on December 18, 2016, we Celebrated Christmas by Candlelight at the Candlelight Dinner Theatre. On March 26, 2017, we had a Family Gathering featuring Sinatra vocalist Sean Reilly with a guest appearance by Dame Edna (Scott Mason). Everyone enjoyed Dancing to the music of DJ & MC, Bong Mike. For all events, check the OES website under Benefit for Children and then Projects.

The 2018-2019 year saw us enjoy a evening of food, friendship and dancing at our Halloween Party on October 21, 2018 at Nur Shire Center. We thank all our members, our Masonic Brothers, friends and the public who help and support this wonderful cause.

2019-2020 Benefit for Children Season started with the Beef & Beer Party at the Aetna Center in Newark. All enjoyed the evening and a thanks goes out to all that supported the event. The Annual Tea for Benefit for Children, The Enchanted Forest Tea, will be held on February 15, 2020.
