information

The Order of the Eastern Star (OES) is one of the largest fraternal organizations to which both women and men may belong.

Who should join OES?

Those with high moral character, a desire to work for the betterment of others, and who possess the drive to make the world a better place. A potential member need not be religious, but ought to believe in a Supreme Being.

Who can join OES?

An individual interested in joining the Eastern Star must meet at least one of the following criteria:

  • Men who are Master Masons in good standing from a Masonic Lodge recognized by the Grand Lodge of Delaware AF&AM

  • Women who are relatives–by birth, marriage or adoption–of a past or present Master Mason and who are at least 18 years of age. The Master Mason should be held in good standing from a Masonic Lodge recognized by the Grand Lodge of Delaware AF&AM.

  • Women, 18 years or older, who have been members for three years in the International Order of Job’s Daughters or the International Order of Rainbow for Girls.

The Path to Becoming a Member

  1. Contact the Grand Secretary of the Grand Chapter of Delaware for the name, address, and other contact information of a Subordinate Chapter in your area.

  2. Print, wholly complete and sign a petition for membership. Note that your petition must include the signatures of two members, within the target Subordinate Chapter, who will recommend you.

  3. Submit the completed petition to the Subordinate Chapter.

  4. An Investigation Committee will contact you and ask a few simple questions, provide an opportunity to meet some Subordinate Chapter Members, and verify your Masonic affiliation.

  5. The Investigation Committee will report this information to the intended Subordinate Chapter. Your petition and relevant credentials are then voted upon. Should your petition be successful, you will be notified of a date and time to appear to receive the Degrees of the Order.
